I actually think this was pretty responsible. Rather than banning it outright, which would result in kids wanting to rebel even more, she offers it in her home where she can control the amount people drink. Good on ya, Mrs George. You’re a cool mom.

She also offered her daughter a condom when she was hooking up with a guy instead of freaking out and kicking the guy out of the house.

This was literally my mom.

She rode my ass about a lot of things (and was a control freak 95% of the time) but she was a realist.

She understood that teenagers would experiment and instead of losing her shit she made sure I had a way out, a way home, and a healthy understanding about sex, sexuality, and contraception.

For example:

“I don’t want you drinking, but you’re a teenager. You’re gonna drink. Just don’t do it in public. I don’t wanna visit you in juvie. Drink at home. Or call me to come get you. I’ll pay for a cab on my card if I have to.” (I was 15 when she said this. I’m 23 now and it’s still a viable option.)
Condoms are in the medicine cabinet. They will be replaced every week, no questions asked.
If you need to see a doctor, I will take you. No questions asked.

Don’t get the wrong idea. My mom was by no means a lax, irresponsible parent. I had a curfew until I was 20 and engaged to be married.

When I was a teenager, if I fucked up, she flipped the breaker and turned the power off in the whole house except her room and the kitchen. (There was a padlock on the breaker box.)
